Introduction
In Q2, 2008 Hybrid CE was involved in A5/1 upgrade for Celcom mobile network throughout Malaysia peninsular. A5/1 is a stream cipher used to provide over-the-air communication privacy in the GSM cellular telephone standard. Since it was became public knowledge and reverse engineering since 2003, it has become a task for Celcom to enhance and upgrade their system in order to maintain secure privacy line to the mobile user

Hybrid CE main task is to change all transceiver units (BTS) to A5/1 compliance. re-cabling work, a local software update in the flashcard, upgrading the base station internal database, including test and site integration. Even Though not all 2.5G / GPRS were involved, but most of the critical or important sites were upgraded during this exercise
